Art and museum curators acquire items for the collections in their care, identify and classify specimens and arrange conservation and restoration work. Curators work mainly indoors but they may be required to travel extensively on field study. Curators might be required to answer public queries or to lecture on and write about their collections. Appreciation of the history of science, the environment or the arts is important, as are patience, attention to detail and good oral and written communication skills. Try volunteering or a work-experience placement at a museum or gallery to gauge your interest in the industry.
